Protective Care Community Residences

Protective care community residences provide specialized care and accommodations for individuals with varying levels of dementia. The facilities provide a home-like atmosphere with private rooms, open shared social spaces and access to safe outdoor areas. This new environment, supported by trained staff and best practices, is specially designed to positively impact the quality of life for residents.

The Clarenville Protective Care Community Residence offers care for mild (as they are independently ambulatory) to advanced dementia.

Residents with moderate to advanced dementia may be eligible for admission to the Bonavista Protective Care Community Residence.

Safety or other additional important information

Planning and preparing for placement may be difficult for you and your family. At Eastern Health, we believe that asking questions and developing a good plan will help you and your family adjust to the change. We recommend that you prepare for decision making by completing an advance health-care directive (PDF) and Power of Attorney (PDF) prior to your admission.

If not previously completed before admission to a protective care community residence, the advance health-care directive and the substitute decision maker documents can be completed with the social worker on admission day. A Power of Attorney can be recommended but is not required.
